I was recently given the opportunity to work on an exciting project here in Calgary that I feel truly reflects the meaning of Slow Design. Without being consciously aware of all the theories, definitions and loosely defined rules that compose a 'slow' space, the client and I have been working very closely together to create a very unique and personal space. This process begun to teach me some very unique lessons about a new approach to design.
Working in the realm of commercial design rarely provides a designer the opportunity to take ample time to really create a space by hand, however having been given this rare chance I look forward to reframing my thought process. There is no reason a project always needs to happen overnight and by giving it time we can allow it to come together more organically.
Obviously this shift in thinking will not happen overnight, and I'm thankful for that. I want to intentionally take time to create my own definition of Slow Design. Over the last few weeks, I have been collecting images and ideas that are beginning to create the base of this concept for me, so I thought I would share...
